IN House Explosion Leaves Three Dead, Probe Underway

Three people were killed in a house explosion Wednesday afternoon in Evansville.

Another person was transported for injuries after the 1 p.m. blast that left about 39 houses damaged, Evansville Fire Chief Mike Connelly told the media, adding that the debris was spread over a wide area. 

The search for additional victims was halted late Wednesday afternoon in order to allow investigators with Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to conduct an analysis, according to the Courier & Press.

The gas company released a statement after the explosion: "CenterPoint Energy is working closely with the Evansville Fire Department, State Fire Marshal and other agencies as the investigation of this incident continues." 

The blast was felt several blocks away.
